Frequently asked Questions

Before booking……

1.     How will we know if you are right for us? Have a look around the website and my social media pages, read client reviews on google or book a zoom chat with me to see if what I offer is what you are hoping for.

2.     Do I need a second photographer? Usually no, I would suggest adding one if you have 150+ guests or your wedding is at a few different venues where action will be happening simultaneously. It is not a necessity, but can be a nice bonus!

3.     When do we pay? A £250 deposit is paid on booking, the remaining balance is due 4 weeks before the wedding.

4.     Can we pay early or pay in instalments? Yes, I’m totally flexible with this. Just send a bank transfer and I’ll message back to say I’ve received it and what your remaining balance is.

5.     Where are you and where do you cover? I live in Dundee and can usually be found here, Fife, Perthshire, Edinburgh, Aberdeenshire, Lothian or Glasgow. I’m always happy to further for an adventure, just ask.

6.     Do you charge extra for travel/accommodation? No, the packages I have sent you have these costs factored in, what I have quoted, is what you will pay, no extras will be added later.

7.     Are you insured and do you pay tax? Yes and yes, if your venue asks for a copy of my public liability certificate, I can provide this.

8.     Do we chat before the wedding? Yes, some couples like a zoom chat before booking. I encourage all couples to have a zoom chat around a month before the wedding, to give us a chance to get to know each other and chat about plans for the day. From there I create a timeline for the day, which you will check over by email and make any changes to.

9.     We hate having our photos taken, is this going to be torture? No! I promise not to make you do anything awkward or cringeworthy, you honestly won’t notice the cameras are on you for most of the day. You will be busy and I will be discrete. Posed photography is understandably, not for everyone, so I keep these parts quick, natural, we will have a laugh and keep it moving. I’ll guide you through it make sure you feel comfortable! If you are very anxious about wedding photos, a pre-wedding shoot can help you relax on the day.

On the day….

10.  Is it just you on the day? Yes for photography/film only packages (unless you have booked a second photographer prior to the day or you have the Full Works package). If you have a photography and film package there will be a videographer there with me.

11.  How long are you there? I arrive two hours before the ceremony for some getting ready and arrival shots and stay until around the third dance.

12.  Do we have to feed you? No, I’m happy to go to the bar/out for food. The only time I would ask to be fed is if your venue is remote and there is nowhere to eat nearby, or if there is action during the meal that you would like captured (for example, singing waiters or speeches between courses). If there is no meal available, I will be off site during your dinner time and will return for the arrival of your evening guests.

13.  How many group shots should we do? I leave this up to you and it is usually 0-20 groups, although most couples have 3-10. Generally, each family and the bridal party are most common, some families get split into smaller groups depending on dynamics and a big group shot of everyone is fairly common. Some couples like to include their groups of friends, men in kilts or hen/stag groups. Each group takes 3-5 mins to gather and organise so this should be factored into your timings.

14.  Do we have to round up guests for group photos? No, I’ll have our pre-agreed list and can shout names! It can be helpful to let your ushers/someone in your family know ahead of time which groups you are doing, so they can help round them up, but it isn’t a necessity.

15.  Will we be away from our guests for hours having photos/video?  Not unless you want to! If you have read my reviews, you will know I’m a fast mover! If you would rather be chatting with your guests than posing, my advice would be to keep your group shots to the minimum and stay close to your venue(s) for the couple shoot. If you have a venue with some nice grounds/views, we can do a top quality 10-15 minute shoot with loads of variation.  However, if you are keen to get out in your wedding car to some local scenery, or places that are special to you, I’m happy to go out on an adventure with you. It’s your day, do what makes you happy!

16.  What if you are sick/unable to attend on the day? As reassurance, I have not had a sick day in 18 years and have attended weddings during illness, through weather warnings and the day after my Dad died. I gave these couples full effort, enthusiasm, and professionalism on the day, as they deserved. I have built many connections with local photographers and videographers, I also am part of an emergency cover group on Facebook, so if it was necessary, I would do everything I could to cover your wedding day and minimise your stress.

17.  What if your camera/equipment breaks? I have five cameras in my bag and wear two of these on a harness, so there is always a backup ... and a backup for the backup! I also bring several lenses, three flashguns and various other bits of kit. When shooting a film, your ceremony and speeches will be shot from at least two angles and with two clip on microphones and another back up mic just in case of an equipment glitch or failure! Weddings are live events, unfortunately we can’t do re-takes, I prepare for the worst and hope for the best!

18.  What if the weather on the day is bad? We get creative… or wet/windswept… the choice is yours! We can find places to shoot indoors depending on your venue or if you are brave, buy a few white/clear brollies and we can go outside and have fun! Often it doesn’t rain all day, if we find a break in the weather, we can run out and get some photos.

After the wedding….

1.     How many photos will we get? For a full day with one photographer: 500-900, with two photographers: 750-1400. There is no set number, any good photos will make the cut! It really depends on how action packed your day is and how much time is spent travelling between locations.

2.     Can we print/post our photos? Yes these are high resolution digital images which you can print yourself or order from a professional printing lab through your online gallery. You will also get a PIN code to download your photos. You can post these online but please tag/credit me.

3.     How many photos are in the wedding album and do we pick these ourselves? On average, 100 photos are in your album, it has 30 pages. I’ll create an album design which you will receive with the delivery of your gallery and you can make changes to this design until you are happy to order. Alternatively, you can give me a list of around 100 photos and I’ll build a design from that. I’d advise going with the first option, it looks better and is less effort for you!

4.     How long will our film be? You will receive two films: a five-minute-long highlight film to music and a full-length film which includes your ceremony and speeches, so the length of the film depends on how long these run on the day. Generally, the full-length film is 40-80 minutes.

5.     When will we receive our photos? I usually send a sneak peek of around 10 photos within two days of the wedding so you can update your status to married in style! The full gallery will be delivered around 2-3 weeks after the wedding.

6.     When will we receive our film? You will receive your films 4-6 weeks after the wedding, if you are ok with posting on social media, I’ll aim to post a teaser trailer reel within a week of the wedding.

7.     We don’t want our photos/film featured online, will this be a problem? Not at all, I ask every couple before the wedding if it is ok to post, if you say no, I simply won’t post, no questions asked.

8.     If we agree to posting online when will this happen? If you have a film, I’ll post a trailer reel within a week, I post photos 3-4 weeks after your wedding usually. I do a few blog posts on the website in the winter too.
