“I want you to know
You are still the one I want to talk to in bed
That turns my head
That makes me laugh
That is my better half”
Everett emailed me last year to ask if I was free to photograph a special occasion, when I read what he was planning my heart skipped a beat and I was hooked by his plans! Everett and Valorie would be celebrating 50 years of marriage that year, to celebrate they were bringing their family to Scotland on holiday. They had agreed to have a photo shoot as they were keen to have some posed family photos while they were all together, but Everett had an surprise for his wife, he had booked Dunkeld Cathedral to surprise her with a vow renewal. I met them at their holiday home on the Stenton Estate where they were having their first ever experiences of wearing a kilt! The house is stunning, huge rooms and beautiful gardens. It was a sunny afternoon in July, perfect holiday weather. Valorie believed we were going into Dunkeld to have a photo shoot . When we arrived at the cathedral, she was greeted by the Minister, handed a bouquet of flowers by her Grandchildren, her sons linked arms with her and walked her down the aisle. A few happy tears were shed, Everett had written the most beautiful words to read as had their grandchildren. It always feels so special to witness an event like this when there are only a few people there. The grounds at Dunkeld Cathedral are lovely, so it was a good opportunity to get some family photos. We went back to Stenton house where Everett had arranged caterers to cook a celebratory meal. The family arranged for a cake maker to recreate their original wedding cake. It was a proper family celebration of everything they had achieved in 50 years and amazing to witness the appreciation and love they still have for each other after all this time.
